francesca whetnall about

I was born in Exeter in 1975 but moved to Wandsworth when I was one. I have been drawing and painting since childhood. I studied for an Art foundation course at Wimbledon School of Art. Uninspired by the available degree level art courses I went on to study Geography at Leeds University. My passion for art and the support and encouragement of my family and friends inspired me to continue developing my creative skills. Since university my career has moved me away from art but I continue to paint and exhibit my work at every opportunity. I currently live in Southampton and work in Winchester.

I love colour and attempting to capture the beauty of plants, landscapes and people in my paintings. I enjoy painting a range of subjects including flowers, landscapes, portraits, still life and abstracts. I thrive on variety and find that trying out a new subject or technique can change the way I work and enhance other areas of my painting. Watercolour is my favourite medium but I also paint in acrylics, gouache, oils and pastels. I paint outdoors when I can but I also work in my studio at home, either directly from flowers, still life or human subjects, or from sketches and photographs.
